Hi Everyone!!
So I went to the Lowell Community Health Center Teen Coalition on Thursday for about an hour and a half. First of all I have to say that I had a lot of fun and the kids are great! When I got there the kids were spread out throughout the center doing different things. The kids were working on homework, painting, playing cards, talking and hanging out, playing other games and on computers. I walked around for a little bit and talked to some of them but most were busy with these activites. I wandered into an area where I heard a lot of noise and found them playing the game taboo. One of the teams asked me to join them as soon as I walked in. We played 3 games and it was so much fun. The kids were so into the game, they were yelling, laughing and joking the whole time. Once we finished it was time for dance. I went into the other room to watch the beginning of the dance class until I had to leave. Overall I had a great time and the kids are very welcoming. I am glad that we are required to do this, it's a great experience.
Sounds like fun! I'm even more excited for my trip there now. Thanks for the mini-update about it; I'm glad you had a good experience!
ReplyDeleteThe Lowell Community Health Center Teen Coalition is such a positive program for the city of Lowell. Not often does such an organization draw such a positive response from the youth. Not only does the LCHCTC provide a safe place for the kids it also teaches them useful skills for the future. Skills such as creating a resume, creating a college essay, or simply filling out an application are commonly taken advantage of in our educated minds. These skills are both useful and interesting for these kids to learn. Even if the students are simply playing Taboo, they are still in a positive atmosphere. I'm glad you were a part of a great organization and had a great first day!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had such a good time, Cassandra! It definitely makes me look forward to going. They're doing such good things for these kids with this program. Sometimes they just need a positive environment to hang out in.
ReplyDeleteHad a great time there as well. Enjoyed watching the students working on many different activities in a comfortable and safe setting. Am really looking forward to going back and becoming more involved with helping students with the difficult process of applying to college. Was pretty bad at Taboo, hopefully my skills improve the next time I play.
